A "trusted expert" will listen to exactly what you want, and apply the techniques that will help you achieve this goal. When you go out to buy something, you have already decided to buy you will not let a salesperson selling you on something else than what you had in mind (although this happens far too often on the market). The same goes for your massage therapy experience. If you are not sure what you need, but have a specific complaint, your massage therapist should listen to your chief complaints and deliver a solution that helps you achieve your desired result (more on this later).
If you perceive that the massage therapist you are working with is not listening to your needs, it is perfectly okay for you massage session ends. This may seem a bit harsh, but wasting your time and money on ineffective treatments is not an acceptable solution.
2. What you should expect from your massage therapy treatment.
Massage therapy treatment should specifically meet your desired result. You should expect that you will be working with a skilled masseuse, who will listen to your questions and help you receive a massage that is very satisfying for you. From the moment you call to schedule your massage treatment you need to have a feeling that you should come to work with a therapist who will treat you as an individual and respecting your individual. It is appropriate to ask for massage therapists credentials and experience.
You can also talk with an existing client to ensure that they have had a pleasant experience to an existing client, that they work with have had a pleasant experience with the practitioner you are about to have an massage with. You can ask to come by and see the facility, where you will receive your massage. It looks clean, relaxing and therapeutic? What does the energy of the facility like? Connect your energy and feel like a place that you will be familiar with? It is also appropriate to ask to meet with the therapist who is going to potentially work with you prior to the massage, so you can be sure that you will be familiar with the massage therapist.
Once you have created your massage treatment and arrive for your massage, you will be asked to fill out some papers. Allow for sufficient time to complete the paperwork, so it does not interfere with your massage time. After all, if you experience a massage expert, chances are they are very busy, and they have clients before and after you.
When you arrive at your company, you must be a hot met and offered water while filling out paperwork and wait to meet your therapist (if you do not meet them prior). Your therapist will introduce themselves to you and welcome you and direct you back to the massage room. The therapist will then ask you for your specific goals for the session and listen to you before you continue. You should feel that the therapist cares deeply about your goals for the session and are interested in helping you achieve them. Treatment room must be relaxing and comforting. Massage Therapist should explain that you can disrobe to your level of comfort.
Note: For some people, their level of comfort can be to keep all their clothes. It is perfectly fine. I have worked with clients who started with me working with me fully clothed and as their comfort level rising, they began to remove some clothes so that I could massage directly to their skin. The fact is that Massage therapy feels better when applied directly to the skin. Other fact is that a skilled masseur can work together with you, with all your clothes on and still gives a great massage.
You should be covered or draped with sheets correctly during your massage. This is not only a law, but is designed for your comfort. This means that only the area of the body that is being massaged will be exposed. The rest of your body will be covered by a sheet and when you're cold a blanket .
Note: I've had massages at companies who have used very little towels to cover my naked body. I'm very happy with my body, but in one session in particular (on a San Diego establishment) I was very cold during the session and the draft made the massage very uncomfortable. I've come to find out that this business cannot be a legitimate massage practice but a front for prostitution. You will never know this as it is marketed as a day spa, so be wary of where you create your agreement. I can guarantee that if I would have implemented these 5 steps I would have known that this company was not legitimate, and I would have saved myself, the nasty experience and a waste of my time and money.
The practitioner will leave the room, when they explain where you should place your clothes and they will indicate that they will be back in a while to start your massage.
Note: We implemented a "switch" in our clinics, when pressed on the client turns on a light to know you're ready. I have had numerous experiences of opening the door for clients who were not comfortable under the sheets. If the company does not have provides the parameter "relaxation" that you are quick to get on the table to avoid any uncomfortable racing to table scenarios.
When you are on the table, you don't have to wait too long for the therapist to come and begin the massage. The therapist must enter the room and ask you how you feel on the table. How is the temperature in space? How feels the table? How do feel the pillows or Bolsters?
Before the therapist begins doing the massage they must tell you, that if at any point during the massage you'd more or less pressure to just let them know and they will accommodate you. If you get the message to the general relaxation massage therapist should not talk to you during the session. This is one of the leading complaints I hear from massage consumers across the country, when they tell me about their massage experiences. I've heard of therapists who will tell the customer about all their personal problems, while the customer is "hostage" and pay good money to the Council these therapists on their personal problems.
Remember the first step, you always have the right and should get exactly what you want, tell that you prefer to listen to music or zone out during your massage therapist. If your therapist is a massage expert, you will find that they will have listened to you describe your goal of relaxation and therefore they would be quiet during the session massage.
Note: If you receive a massage for a goal of Relive pain or a specific harm your massage therapist will discuss with you, your history and explain what they are doing. You also may be asked to move around on the table from the face down, side lying on his back.
After your massage therapists should thank you for the session and discuss their assessment of your muscular health. Your therapist will explain what they recommend for a treatment plan for you to reach your goal. It can be as simple as you would receive massage once a month to keep stress levels low enough to help you better manage your life; or it may require you to come as often as 2 X a week for 6 weeks to aggressively treat a specific case you treat.
Whatever the case, the therapist should work with give you a plan that will help you achieve your massage goals. It may be that Massage therapy is not going to be the best method to help reduce your pain. In this case, your therapist will refer you to the appropriate group or therapy that will help you achieve this.
3. Why massage modalities are a thing of the past and what a massage modality is.
If you are new to massage you will peruse the menu massage and wonder what all these treatments are. A massage modality is a massage technique that has a specific purpose for massage-receiver. There are literally hundreds of massage modalities and they may seem daunting to a person who has never received a massage before. There is also falsification of massage modalities of therapists who are not adequately trained in modality they offer. This is the third point, i discussed in the potential problems massage consumers can experience when receiving a massage.
The fact is that the only people who know what a shiatsu, reiki treatment, deep tissue massage or Swedish massage is massage practitioners. As massage consumer you worry about one thing: that you will receive a massage, that will help you achieve your specific goals for this special session. Whether it's stress management, sports performance, injury prevention, injury rehabilitation, pain relief or just overall wellness, modality, which is used to achieve these goals not by importance to you. Most of the time you don't even know what modality is. So if you are faced with having to choose between a Swedish, deep tissue, shiatsu, thai massage or trager, so you know that you might want to look elsewhere in order to get your massage treatment. You will work with an expert who will listen to your needs and integrate a number of guidelines that meet this result massage.
4. How to effectively communicate with your massage therapist.
As you remember from the first step you are always right and you should always get what you expect from your massage treatment. Before, during and after your massage, you have an open line of communication with your massage therapist. If at any time during the session you will have more or less pressure you should only have to say, a little less pressure and your therapist should immediately respond to your request.
If for any reason you feel uncomfortable during the session, you should be able to say it and have the therapist to validate your feelings by making the necessary changes. So, it's as easy as just talk. Unfortunately, I've heard from too many massage consumers who have received a massage, they were uncomfortable, but they did not because they do not want to interfere with the therapist.
Here is the agreement, if your therapist is reacting in a defensive manner on your feedback, you can end the session right in the moment. You don't have to pay for the treatment. When you work with a massage expert, they will be able to feel what you feel and deal with your concerns before you have a chance to express them. I have trained our therapists to see body language and listen to any keywords to change the direction of treatments with clients. If you are not experiencing this, I urge you politely end the massage session and seek out an expert to help you with your massage needs.
5. You may be able to get massage for Free (that's right, I said it, for free).
I know I don't mind paying for something when I get exactly what I ask for. I usually buy stuff based on a problem, I would like to solve (a pain I like to avoid). Massage therapy is exactly the same.
If you are stressed and your stress is relieved, your head is clearer, and you are able to enjoy a more relaxed life, so that you are happy to pay for the service. What about if you could get the service that relieves your pain or stress and get it for free? Sound too good to be true? Well, have some massage businesses incentive referral programs where they will give you a massage or money for a massage when you refer a friend, family or colleague. At the clinics owner I we offer $ 35 for each referral that our wonderful clients honor us. we have some clients that get a few free massage per month because they enjoy the service and they encourage their friends, family and colleagues to come to our clinic and get a massage. The end result is that you end up getting massage free.
Of course if the massage establishment you go to produce not a massage that meets or exceeds your expectations, then you would get more massage that is basically worthless. There are options on the market. Use this reference to help you receive a massage that meets your expectations.
